00:00:00 Review: The Hives
Jim and Greg review “The Hives Forever Forever The Hives” by Swedish garage rock band The Hives. It’s their seventh studio album, after the unlikely comeback in 2023 with the album “The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons.”
21st Century Indie Rock

Chris Deville is a music writer whose own life has given him a front row seat to the growth of indie rock since the turn of the century. He tells that story in his book “Such Great Heights: The Complete Cultural History of the Indie Rock Explosion.” In this discussion they cover the shifting definition of “cool,” the debate over “rockism” versus “poptimism” and artists like Arcade Fire, Carly Rae Jepson and The Weeknd.

Dear Listeners,
For more than 15 years, Sound Opinions was a production of WBEZ, Chicago's public radio station. Now that the show is independent, we're inviting you to join the band and lend a hand! We need your support more than ever because now we have to do all the behind-the-scenes work that WBEZ handled before (like buying insurance and paying for podcast hosting, ugh). Plus, we have some exciting ideas we'd like to try now that there's no one to tell us no!
